We
recently received approval for a nonprofit education outreach program
to continue what we have done as out of pocket work in the past. Ironwood
Observatories and Learning
Center
is now searching
for funding
and contributions for astronomy outreach programs.
Funding
would be spent on the purchase of amateur telescopes computers and software for
students to use under the Hawaiian skies. A long
term goal
would include building
a fully automated observatory for the local school children to run an
operate. See page
3 for more details.
What
could a child learn from an astronomy program
like this? Well
most would think that they would learn about the Universe, our galaxy
and the Solar system. When
children are inspired they are more inclined to spend time searching
for answers and learning
how to find them. Using
a Telescope and computer they learn how to use technology.
Working
as a group
they learn cooperation and that there peers have different talents and
difference are a good
and useful. This is a hands on astronomy
program.
This is the Ironwood Observatories and Learning Center Classroom we were conducting an
astronomy teachers workshop.
